Rumors & News from the Wrestling Mole

What a crazy weekend capped off with this year's edition of WWE's SummerSlam (or Summer SCAM?). Let's first mention the obvious the obvious: though it left him needing stitches afterwards, CM Punk beat JBL, Triple H topped the Great Khali (Great Whoopi is more like it), Batista stopped John Cena and the Undertaker returned to kick Edges ass. Hmmm...if there is anyone out there who couldn't have predicted these outcomes...please send em my way I got a little wager on the next TNA event. Now on to the rumblings making their way through the wrestling world.

In the "Tassels vs. Tatas" Department.

The Ultimate Warriors ex-wife, Shari Tyree, has been dropping hints that she will soon be interviewed for the first time about her life with the former WWF Inter-Continental and World Champion. So soon it has been claimed that it will happen THIS week! No offense Shari, but if I wanna hear some chick with a name that sounds like a brain-dead stipper talk about a musclehead ex with serious psycological issues I'll just wait for the next tidbit on the "Luscious" Linda Hogan saga to pop up.

In the "Feather Boas vs. Black Robes" Department.

So now that Jesse Ventura can no longer rule over wrestling, or the state of Minnesota for that matter, it is rumored that the former WWF Superstar is negotiating to host a judge talk show set to premiere in 2009. Now Judge Judy scares me, Judge Ventura only gives me bad gas. Wonder how many one-liners ol' Jesse's dug up from his wrestling days to foist upon unsuspecting trial attendees?

The "Should We Really Care" Department.

So this upcoming Monday, August 25th, WWE Raw will air on Sci-Fi instead of the regular USA Network slot due to the US Open Tennis Tournament. Maybe ol' Vince really is hurt...he gotta be to just step aside...FOR TENNIS?!?!?! Guess 25 plus years of propping up the USA Network means very little these days. Why not just skip Raw this week? That way the 4 or 5 Superstars left can take the night off.

The "We REALLY Shouldn't Care" Department.

So after last night's "not really a match after all" match, Mark Henry will take on Matt Hardy on ECW this Tuesday on SCI-Fi. I should feel bad for all the "Matt-Heads" who actually paid to see last nights "not-match" when they could have just watched for free on Tuesday but like they say "a fool and his money...". But then again...it's not like this is REAL ECW, right? If this is news to you...I got a wager on a Magnificent Moolah match I'd like to discuss with you as well.

The "Finally Some News That Makes Me Smile" Department.

So WWE's Umaga will be out of action for a couple of months to undergo rehab on a "funny" knee injury hee suffered at Tuesday's WWE Smackdown taping. They say it's a torn posterior cruciate ligament. I say it's a friggin' breath of fresh air!

Yeah there's more crap to discuss...like Santino Marella becoming Inter-Continental Champion again (The Honky Tonk Man would be rolling over in his grave...if'n he was dead ya'll!), or the return of Tony Atlas?

Come to think about it...there really isn't anything left to discuss.

Til Next Time...WHATCHA GONNA DO WHEN THE BIGGEST OPINION IN THE WORLD RUNS WILD ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Night Classics

The Masked Marvel vs Gorgeous George
Check out this highlights clip from this odd fifties match with the ring surrounded by water complete with extra ref in a boat! Insiration for WCW's Bash at the Beach in the Nineties?

UWF Bladerunners vs Ted Debiase & Dr. Death
These two Bladerunners from 1986 would go on to parallel paths. Sting as a star in WCW, Rock as a star called The Ultimate Warrior in the WWF. Sting and the Warrior would have title reigns in their resepctive companies at the same time in the late eighties and eventually team back up in 1997 to face Hollywood Hogan & Brett Hart in WCW. Here is where it all began!

Rock & Wrestling Gone Wrong

by Jonny Rokket

In wrestling, such as in life, there are only a few things you can count on. You can always count on Jonny Rokket to know about all things historical about rock & roll and wrestling. By the same token, there are just the plain facts and it's a historical fact that two things exploded in the '80s: wrestling and MTV. With that in mind yours truly decided to hit up YouTube to see what "classic" rock and wrestling combination videos were available. The results were, to put it mildly, humous, and in many cases, painful. Thes are just a few.

Not all music related clips from the time period were WWF clips. Check out this promo music clip from Southern Championship Wrestling in Georgia. The clip is from the late 80's and the song is 38 Special's "Wild Eyed Southern Boys". The wrestler? "Wildfire" Tommy Rich. I believe a couple of the clips may be from Augusta.

While we all know that The Freebirds brought rock & roll into wrestling, it was the WWF's hook up with Cyndi Lauper that made for wrestle-rock history. Of course Lauper had one of the first "created" for vids on MTV as Captain Lou played her pops for "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." This next video is a Lauper promo for the movie "The Goonies" and this clip features both parts played on MTV as a special! The videos feature Captain Lou, the Iron Sheik, Freddie Blassie, Nikolai Volkoff, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant and more! To bad it sucked but you be the judge. Love the "you haven't had gas until you've had mom & pop's" store sign though!

Not to be outdone, original Freebird Michael P.S. Hayes did a video for Freebirds theme song "Badstreet USA". This clip was eventually used to make another, very controversial clip. Love ya Michael but this is proof positive why rock died for a while in the early 90's.

Of course WWE title holder the Ultimate Warrior couldn't let another "long-hair" out-rock him so he went out and picked up the biggest baddest most hard rockinest musician on the planet to film a music video with. Phil Collins. WHAT? WAIT? OH DAMN!

Now I could get excited that clip is done but folks, it only goes downhill from there! Check out these next two clips from the WWE. Clip one is a gaggle of WWE wrestlers performing "Land of 1000 Dances" with backup help from Rich Derringer and Meatloaf with band. YIKES!

Next is the legendary (hack) "Stand Back" video from 1987. McMahon sings, dances and makes gay faces while Hulk Hogan "bass-synchs" along. Jesse Ventura's intro is spot-on.

Finally...we have even more Hogan for you courtesy of this more recent clip of Hulk Hogan's Wrestling Boot Traveling Band. The songs' "The Hulksters in the House" and it appears to have been filmed at a Hard Rock Cafe, probably Orlando or Miami. What a combo: Bad food AND bad music!

Well kiddies, I guess that's all the ear-bleeding I'll force upon you on this day. But stay tuned...you never know when I'll be back with more painful sounds for your delicate ears!

Rokket Out!

Ultimate What?

by Jonny Rokket

Remember this guy? This crazy looking freak driving the one and only Hulk Hogan down to his knees? Sure you do. This wild & wooly guys name is the Ultimate Warrior who started out in Mid-South Wrestling as one half of the tag team The Blade Runners with the dude who would eventually be known simply as "Sting". He would have a short stint in World Class Championship Wrestling as the Dingo Warrior before landing in the WWF, eventually coming out on top in the "Ultimate Challenge" beating Hogan for Hogan's WWF World Title. The Warrior would have two other "brief stints in the WWF before boring the crap out of fans with the longest misunderstood monologue in wrestling history in WCW in 1998.

Then he disappeared while his "Clark Kent" alter ego kept appearing from time to time.

Then it happened...April, 2008, Madrid Spain, during a confrontation with Orlando Jordan during a Nu Wrestling Entertainmwnt event.

A match was signed...The Ultimate Warrior was back. Why?

Watch this clip from the pre-match press conference in Barcelona, Spain and you may ask yourself the same question. Warrior announces that he will soon turn 49, like it's an amazing thing.

If that's not a good enough reason to question the Warrior's return, perhaps this video of the actual match will do the trick. Maybe the reason he announced his upcoming 49th birthday was so everyone in attendance wouldn't go "damn he looks old, and he wrestles like my grandpa.

If you were a Warrior fan growing up you may wish to refrain from watching this clip. It may make you want to toss out your old Warrior action figures.

Anyway, happy belated birthday Warrior. Hopefully when you blew out the candles on your cake you wished for the clock to turn back to 1998.

Or a brain transplant.

WWF presents- Hulkamania '89- Augusta, Ga.

Author: Bosco Joey Watts

If you have ever tuned into an episode of GCW or the Watts N' Rokket Podcast, then surely you have heard the 2 of us ramble on and on about the historic match-up between Harley Race and Tommy "Wildfire" Rich at the Bell Auditorium nearly 30 years ago, right here in our hometown of Augusta, Ga. You know.. the one where Tommy Rich snagged the NWA Title from the legendary Race, using his signature Thesz Press. Many of you probably believe that this was the biggest wrestling happening to ever hit town... and maybe it was... but, I believe I need to remind our fans of another historic event that happened right here in Augusta... 19 years ago..

World Wrestling Federation presents... Hulkamania '89.

It surprises me that so many people have no idea that this event ever even happened here. I remember it just like yesterday... my old man loaded my brother and I up in the ol'Camaro (no, my dad did not have a mullet.. but he did have a Magnum PI mustache) and we headed downtown to the Augusta Richmond, Co. Civic Center to witness the homecoming of our very own... Hulk Hogan. For any of you who are unaware (or just ignorant).. Hulk "Terry Bolea" Hogan was born right here in Augusta, Ga. at St. Joseph's Hospital back in 1953. That's right... Hulk Hogan was born right here in Augusta, Ga... and that night... Nov. 11, 1989... he came home to defend his WWF World Heavyweight Title against Bad News Brown at Hulkamania '89.

To give you a bit of perspective on where Hogan's career was at this time... the movie No Holds Barred had just been released (prompting a celebrated feud between Hogan and his partner Brutus Beefcake and Zeus along with his partner Randy Savage).. and in several months he would go onto win the Royal Rumble. Hogan would go onto lose the title, however, to The Ultimate Warrior that same year at Wrestlemania VI.

Yes, Hogan was on top of the world, and fans could not believe that Hogan was returning to little ol' Augusta to wrestle before his hometown fans! But Hogan wasn't the only one on card that night... the crowd was also treated to The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes.... in polka dots, no less!! The enthusiastic Augusta crowd that night also saw... in singles action.. Hillbilly Jim (with his golden horseshoe), Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake (with his hedge clippers), and also Randy "Macho Man" Savage. I fondly remember when Randy Savage made his entrance to the ring that night along with Ms. Elizabeth, a young man in an Evans High School letter jacket leaped over the rail and punched Randy Savage... and the cops swarmed this poor bastard and showed him the exit promptly. That was quite amusing... even to a 12 year old.

One of my prized memories that night was seeing the Killer Bs (B. Brian Blair and Jumping Jim Brunzell) in tag team action against the Iron Sheik and Nikolia Volkoff. It might not have meant much at the time, but looking back... I got to see Iron Sheik squaring off with his sworn enemy B. Brian Blair... live!! I forgot who won the match... but does it really even matter 19 years later? I'm guessing no one got humbled too, too bad.

And in the main event.... oh yes, the main event... Hulk Hogan defended his title against Bad News Brown. The match itself was pretty standard... big boot, leg drop... Hogan retains the title. But I will never... and I mean, never... forgot Hogan's entrance to the ring that night. I am positive this was the only time that the ring announcer ever introduced Hogan as "hailing from Augusta, Ga.". And when Rick Derringer's "Real American" was blasted over the PA.. the crowd went totally nuts!! Everyone in the house was on their feet and making plenty of noise for their hometown hero!! And you could hear the same deafening cheers after Hogan defeated Brown, and did his standard series of poses for the crowd...

Above- Hogan in the ring... damn, we had good seats!

What a night.... it's a shame for people don't remember this event, but I damn sure do. To me... Bosco Joey Watts... it was a historical moment, and I am proud to say that I was there. I have nothing else to add...

See you at the matches...
