Jeff Hardy Grounded

Contrary to earlier reports that WWE superstar Jeff Hardy was escorted off a plane he boarded Wednesday morning with brother Matt and Gregory Helms at Nashville International Airport, The Tennesseean is now reporting that Southwest Airlines spokesman Chris Mainz has confirmed that Hardy was not allowed to board in the first place. Southwest employees felt that Hardy, though cooperative, was too intoxicated to board and was allowed to take a later flight.

Siaki Retirement Statement

Former WCW, TNA, and WWE wrestler Sonny Siaki, who was trained at the WCW Power Plant by Dusty Rhodes and Paul Orndorff, has released the following statement announcing his retirement from wrestling in order to donate a kidney to his brother Bernard.

"I just want to say a few things before I close this chapter of my life. The last ten years, I've seen, heard, watched, and learned a lot about myself and the wrestling business. Being a professional wrestler has been one of my dreams since I was a kid. I've had some of the worse and the absolute best times of my life in wrestling... "If you think you know, you have no idea".

Being in the wrestling business is the hardest job in the world. You have to be mentally, emotionally, and physically strong to be accepted into it. If you've never been a part of the business, you have no clue what we (the boys) deal with. In my opinion, the only good part about being in professional wrestling is being in the ring. This business is about filling up arenas, ratings, and drawing money. Are there politics involved in wrestling? Of course there are; politics are a portion of any job. The creative team and agents in WWE and TNA have been in the business for years, and they've seen it all. Opportunities are not given - you've got to take what they give you and find a way to turn it into money. You've got to take chances and think outside the box in this entertainment industry. Bottom line, if you have the potential to be a profitable asset to WWE or TNA then you'll be put on TV. The question you have to ask yourself is: How can I make Vince money?, or How can I make Jeff money? For me; Did I ever make it in pro wrestling? My opinion: No... Was it my fault? Yes, because the first seven years of my career, I didn't get it. I wanted to do what was best for me, not for the match. In the locker room, I was known for being arrogant, cocky, conceited, etc. I took advantage of being a called a pro wrestler. I was VERY selfish... These last three years, the wrestling business became a learning experience. Having good psychology was an adrendelen rush. I started respecting the boys and pro wrestling. Telling a good story in the ring was exciting, wrestling became fun.

Well, unfortunately, two years ago while still with WWE, I received some bad news from home. My brother Bernard, who's only 35 yrs old, was diagnosed with Renal Kidney Failure, a situation where one of his kidneys has completely shut down and the other is functioning at 35%. For the past two years Bernard's rare situation has turned against him. The functioning capability of his one kidney has decreased from 35% to 10%. Bernard seeks dialysis three days a week for 15 hours and lives on a strict diet. Everyday he perseveres with pain, discomfort and more fatigue than one person can usually endure. Bernard works full time just trying to pay his medical bills and on-going medications. We are in the process of providing a kidney transplant at a very high cost for Bernard Siaki by raising awareness, fundraisers, and getting people like you involved. Bernard who just by his kindness alone, contributes to a better society. A tender-hearted man, a gregarious friend, a beloved man. He's the type of person who cares more about other people then himself. I've decided to be the Kidney Donor for my brother which means that the doctor says I can no longer wrestle.

From 1998 to 2008, I was under contract with WCW, TNA, and WWE, and want to thank each organizations for giving me the opportunity to live one of my dreams. It was a privilege and an honor to work with some of the best talents in the world.

To all the boys with WWE, TNA, ROH , the talent in developmental, all Indy workers, and the divas - I know what you put your bodies through, and from the bottom of my heart, I wish you the best. If you believe in faith, please pray for me and Bernard as we get our surgeries that will potentially save my brother's life. To all wrestling fans, thank you for your support of pro wrestling. Without you, there would be no Sports Entertainment.

One Giant Leap for Mankind

After almost a daily blast of updates on Mick Foley's wrestling future it now has been reported that Foley has officially made the plunge out of the WWE joining the "legends revived" roster at TNA.

The following statement was issued today by The Gillespie Agency:

WWE, his future with TNA Wrestling and other opportunities.

As of today, I am a free agent in the world of professional wrestling. I will always be grateful to WWE for affording me so many incredible opportunities over the past thirteen years, but feel the time is right to pursue other endeavors.
This move frees me up to participate in more film, television and voice roles, autograph sessions, speaking engagements, volunteer work, and will allow me the time to start work on a third novel, a fourth wrestling memoir and a new children’s story.

Over the next few weeks I will be working with my management team at Braverman/Bloom Co., Inc. in pursuing a couple of unique investment opportunities. I can confirm I have had discussions with TNA Wrestling and have come to a short-term agreement. I am very excited about the specifics of this agreement and the potential it holds.

Two Minutes at the Hilton or Piper at the Gates of Rome - You Decide

Now I'll be the first to admit that wrestling today pretty much makes me wanna puke. Well at least the majors. It has become more exciting lately to follow the firings, defections and injury reports of the WWE than any of the storylines and TNA? Well their X-Division is starting to remind of the "mini-duplicate" midget wrestlers from back in the day. I'm expecting any day now for Consequences Creed (who already is some sort of portrayal of Rocky Balboa's nemesis turned ally Apollo Creed) to come out sporting a Coco B. Ware outfit carrying a parakeet. All we'd need then is for Curry Man (yep..."Curry Man") to come out sporting a Doink the Clown gimmick and the X-Division transformation will be nearly complete. I'd like to throw in a plug for Abdul Bashir to change his name yet again. This time to The Iron BaShiek and while we're at it...how about we get Alex Shelley to don a wig and come out as the Ultimate Wannabe.

Can I get paid now for my marketing genius? (hint of sarcasm included)

Back over in WWE land ol' Vince is pushing Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels and a trio of "scramble" championship matches at this Sundays Unforgiven pay-per-view plus they have a "Divas" championship match. Now I gotta ask? Is this wrestling or a hint to eat a hearty breakfast, listen to some Whitney Houston and then take a nap?

After grimmacing through RAW this past Monday I came to the conclusion that the major leagues of professional wrestling has zip entertainment value.

Until today.

While rummaging through the news at wrestleview.com I came across this news bit entitled "Santino Marella vs. Perez Hilton" and I thought to myself, "I dig faux Italian wrestlers just as much as the next guy." (HEY! Salvator Bellomo was a heck of an Italian juggernaut!) Within I descovered that apparently Santino Marella, a Canadian wrestler of "Italian descent", hosts his own video show on wwe.com entitled "Santino's Casa" or "Santino's House" for you non-worldly types out there. In the meager span of two minutes and a handful of seconds Santino disses gossip king, um queen, um whatever, Perez Hilton and then rakes Roddy Piper over the coals. While I expected the worst, I absolutely laughed my ass off which is good because Santino's wrestling makes me cry and not in a "moved to tears" kinda way.

In a cookie-cutter wrestling world where everyone wishes they were Jeff Hardy or Triple H, the video actually was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale cloud that is the typical wrestling personality of today.

Despite glitches with last nights Peach State Pandemonium Broadcast, Georgia Wrestling History Online will charge forward with a great show this upcoming Wednesday September 3rd at 9PM featuring NWA legend Ronnie Garvin and GCW star Micah Taylor.


Foley Reportedly Signs with TNA

The Pro Wrestling Torch and ProWrestling.net are reporting that current WWE superstar Mick Foley has agreed to contracyual terms with TNA Wrestling. It is also being reported that Foley will debut sometime after his WWE contract expires after September 1st. Under speculation is still the possibility that his WWE contract may currently include a non-compete clause making his eventual date of debut with TNA uncertain.


Former GCW Star Young Headed to PTPW?

Wrestler David Young, who recently broke ties with Great Championship Wrestling, is already rumored to be booked with another regional promotion. Young, one of GCW's top drawing stars for the past four years is reportedly due to take part in Prime Time Pro Wrestling's event in Columbus on August 29th. Also of note is the fact that Colt Derringer & Deathrow are scheduled to take on Chris Stevens & a Mystery Partner. Young perhaps? Also on the card will be Elix Skipper and long-time regional wrestler Chic Donovan


Raw Over Monday Night Football Streak Ends

After RAW beating out Monday Night football in the rating the past few weeks, it appears as the WWE using the rash of recent ratings wins as a promotional tool has come to an end. PWInsider is reporting that thispast Mondays MNF game between the Seahawks and Chargers beat out Raw by drawing a 3.2 rating compared to Raw's 2.84. Seeing that Raw did air on the Sci fi channel instead of their usual home and that the NFL is still in it's pre-season, we'll have to wait and see how the two fair against each other under "normal" circumstances.


Kevin Nash Addresses Recent Rumors

The Baltimore sun recently posted a pair of Kevin Nash video interviews online where the former WCW/WWE and current TNA superstar commented on reports that he walked out on TNA tapings last month in Orlando. In one of the interviews he states:

"I have a clause in my contract that states that when it comes to physicality, that I have the right to veto with creative anything that I don't feel is safe, that is warranted or anything else. We had 10 guys and a battle royal is a cluster anyway. To give everyone a weapon and give me a pipe and then the only way I can be eliminated is to go over the top rope. As I was sitting and thinking about it, well the first thing I have to do is go over the top rope and make sure the pipe doesn't leave my hand and hit a fan. Then I have to make sure that I don't impale myself on it. And thirdly, I have to make sure I don't land on it."

No Chance in Hell of TNA vs WWE

WrestleView.com reported earlier this month that WWE had changed the date of its Armageddon PPV from December 21 to December 14, falling on the same day as TNA's Turning Point PPV.

Since the satellite and cable companies will not allow two events like these to run on the same night, TNA has moved the Turning Point PPV to December 21.

Late Breaking News

PWInsider reports that former TNA Knockout Gail Kim will be returning to WWE once her current deal with TNA expires. Reportedly WWE made Kim a fairly sizeable offer to have her heavily involved on either of the Raw or Smackdown Diva rosters. Kim's decision is reported to be strictly financial and sources report that the TNA door will remain open should Kim wish to return later.

Sting did not return to TV tapings after the Hard justice pay-per-view due to ongoing negotiations for a new contract with TNA. TNA is seeking to have a deal finalized in the next few weeks for 2009 in order to move on with key parts of Sting's current angle. Sting, who turns 50 early next year, was believed to be earning in the $600,000 range this last year for working basically a part-time schedule.



The Wrestling Observer reports that the decision to pull Mick Foley from his involvement in the Undertaker/Edge Hell in the Cell Match at SummerSlam was made by Vince McMahon on the basis that it would distract from new plans for the match. Reportedly McMahon told the WWE creative team that what was scripted for Foley was now off the show and said they were "moving on without Mick." No news on the exact meaning of that comment as of yet. Foley, who had agreed to sign with TNA in 2005 before the WWE gave hime a new deal, has been reported to be in talks with the Dixie Carter run company.

Speculation continues to grow in the authenticity of Randy Orton's recent morocycle accident. While media outlets in the St. Louis area have been unable to find evidence that suggests the incident occurred, family and friends have come forth in an effort to validate the story that the WWE superstar recounted to WWE.com. At recent WWE TV tapings the accident was being discussed as being real yet a couple of days later many found it strange that nobody could find any sort of doumentation of Orton being in a near fatal motorcycle accident.

Legendary Southern Wrestler/Ref Passes Away

Jack Faggart, most popularly known as long-time southern wrestler/referee Sonny "Roughhouse" Fargo, passed away around 9PM Wednesday August 20. Fargo, billed as the crazy cousin of Jackie Fargo in Tennessee during the sixties had lost both legs due to diabetes. Fargo also worked for many years as a referee with Jim Crockett Promotions.


Major Female Star Leaves TNA

Reports are coming in that Gail Kim has left TNA and has also been removed from the organization's website.

Angle Training for MMA?

According to a new report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kurt Angle has been training twice a week in closed door sessions at the Pittsburgh Fight Club. It remains to be seen if Angle is simply doing this training for the workout or if he has any real intentions of competing in Mixed Martial Arts in the future. (wrestleview.com)


Rattlesnake Coming to Cyber Sunday?

According to the official website for the US Airways Center, Steve Austin is being promoted as making a "special guest appearance" at the WWE Cyber Sunday PPV on Sunday, October 26.

The statement reads as follows: "World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstars will take to the ring when WWE presents Cyber Sunday at US Airways Center on Sunday, Oct. 26, beginning at 4:45 p.m. The event is scheduled to feature WWE superstars John Cena, Undertaker, Triple H, CM Punk, JBL, Big Show, Kane, Jeff Hardy, The Great Khali and Batista, among others. In addition, a special guest appearance will be made by WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin."

Rumors & News from the Wrestling Mole

What a crazy weekend capped off with this year's edition of WWE's SummerSlam (or Summer SCAM?). Let's first mention the obvious the obvious: though it left him needing stitches afterwards, CM Punk beat JBL, Triple H topped the Great Khali (Great Whoopi is more like it), Batista stopped John Cena and the Undertaker returned to kick Edges ass. Hmmm...if there is anyone out there who couldn't have predicted these outcomes...please send em my way I got a little wager on the next TNA event. Now on to the rumblings making their way through the wrestling world.


In the "Tassels vs. Tatas" Department.

The Ultimate Warriors ex-wife, Shari Tyree, has been dropping hints that she will soon be interviewed for the first time about her life with the former WWF Inter-Continental and World Champion. So soon it has been claimed that it will happen THIS week! No offense Shari, but if I wanna hear some chick with a name that sounds like a brain-dead stipper talk about a musclehead ex with serious psycological issues I'll just wait for the next tidbit on the "Luscious" Linda Hogan saga to pop up.


In the "Feather Boas vs. Black Robes" Department.

So now that Jesse Ventura can no longer rule over wrestling, or the state of Minnesota for that matter, it is rumored that the former WWF Superstar is negotiating to host a judge talk show set to premiere in 2009. Now Judge Judy scares me, Judge Ventura only gives me bad gas. Wonder how many one-liners ol' Jesse's dug up from his wrestling days to foist upon unsuspecting trial attendees?



The "Should We Really Care" Department.

So this upcoming Monday, August 25th, WWE Raw will air on Sci-Fi instead of the regular USA Network slot due to the US Open Tennis Tournament. Maybe ol' Vince really is hurt...he gotta be to just step aside...FOR TENNIS?!?!?! Guess 25 plus years of propping up the USA Network means very little these days. Why not just skip Raw this week? That way the 4 or 5 Superstars left can take the night off.



The "We REALLY Shouldn't Care" Department.

So after last night's "not really a match after all" match, Mark Henry will take on Matt Hardy on ECW this Tuesday on SCI-Fi. I should feel bad for all the "Matt-Heads" who actually paid to see last nights "not-match" when they could have just watched for free on Tuesday but like they say "a fool and his money...". But then again...it's not like this is REAL ECW, right? If this is news to you...I got a wager on a Magnificent Moolah match I'd like to discuss with you as well.



The "Finally Some News That Makes Me Smile" Department.

So WWE's Umaga will be out of action for a couple of months to undergo rehab on a "funny" knee injury hee suffered at Tuesday's WWE Smackdown taping. They say it's a torn posterior cruciate ligament. I say it's a friggin' breath of fresh air!


Yeah there's more crap to discuss...like Santino Marella becoming Inter-Continental Champion again (The Honky Tonk Man would be rolling over in his grave...if'n he was dead ya'll!), or the return of Tony Atlas?

Come to think about it...there really isn't anything left to discuss.

WWE: Summerslam Results/Rematch/Firings Update

World Wrestling Entertainment results from the SummerSlam PPV event at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN, on August 17: the Big Show over Bam Neely in a dark match; MVP over Jeff Hardy, with involvement from Shelton Benjamin; Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix over Kofi Kingston & Mickie James for Marella to win the WWE Inter-Continental Heavyweight Title and Phoenix to become the WWE Women’s Champion; Shawn Michaels came out with his wife and announced his “retirement” before being interrupted by Chris Jericho, who hit Shawn’s wife by accident, ending simply with the Michaels’ leaving; Matt Hardy over ECW Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry by disqualification in a title match, with interference from Tony Atlas, and Jeff Hardy getting involved in a post-match brawl; CM Punk over JBL to retain the WWE Heavyweight Title; Triple H over the Great Khali to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Title; Batista over John Cena; and the Undertaker over Edge in “Hell in a Cell”.

WWE.com is reporting that on this week's ECW on Sci Fi a rematch from SummerSlam will take place involving Mark Henry defending the ECW Championship against Matt Hardy in Moline, IL.

Although the rise in expenses broadly supports our top-line growth, the disproportionate growth in expenses is unacceptable. Therefore, we are implementing stronger cost control measures, reassessing our spending and the priority of our investments to drive increases in earnings and margins", you know you probably need to get your resume in order, and start networking in a hurry.

This is just as true when the CEO happens to be Linda McMahon.

It's even worse if a stockholder complains on a conference call that "the company is spending money like a drunken sailor" to back her up.

Guess what usually happens next in corporate America?

It did here, too.

Thus, WWE started a bloodletting over the last few weeks that presumably "controlled expenses", with firings (or being "future endeavored", among some circles) of the following WWE performers over the last 2 weeks:

* Braden Walker (better known as former TNA Tag Champion Chris Harris), may have made a bad choice in leaving TNA, to put it mildly. Former partner James Storm is now paired in the "Beer Money" tag team with Robert Roode. One vote for re-pairing Storm and Harris as quickly as possible.

* Big Daddy V may need to lose weight as quickly as possible for health reasons before worrying about where he's going next. Even with that, he was pushed fairly recently, and the termination was a surprise to many.

* Shannon Moore - dropped from WWE after challenging (with Jimmy Wang Yang) Miz and Morrison for the Tag Team Titles back in May

* Nick Patrick has been out of commission for some time, having suffered a back injury

* Domino - he was a co-Tag Team Champion for four months defeating Paul London and Brian Kendrick

* James Maritato (aka Little Guido or Nunzio) - Sadly, he was used as prelim fodder in recent years, when he was used at all with WWECW

* James Curtis (aka Kasey James) - had a brief run on Smackdown with Idol Stevens and Michelle McCool, and as prelim talent in recent months on WWECW

* Rory and Robbie McAllister- The tag team was probably doomed on Wrestlemania weekend when both WWE and TNA were in Orlando; and TNA, in an irresponsible move, showed "Robbie" under his birth name (Derek Graham-Couch) in the crowd on the live broadcast from Orlando. It also cost him his $5,000 Wrestlemania paycheck due to what TNA did. Previous to that, Rory injured his shoulder earlier in the year, which didn't help matters fpr the tag team, either.

* Cherry (aka Kara Slice in New Jersey indies) - was brought in as eye candy for Deuce and Domino. When Maryse was brought in, she was unceremoniously dropped after her unannounced departure from managing the Deuce and Domino tag team, which obviously didn't last very long either.

* Colin Delaney and Stevie Richards - neither one wasted anytime as Delaney was on the final UWA Hardcore Wrestling up in Ontario the very evening his firing was announced, and Richards appeared on Velocity Pro Wrestling's Philadelphia show within 24 hours of the announcement.

* Referee Wes Adams - he seems to have taken the fall for a blown finish in last Tuesday's ECW TV as Mike Mizanin was supposed to break up a pinfall and forgot, leaving Adams to count a pinfall that wasn't part of the script. WWE policy was and is that if a wrestler didn't kick out of a finish, that the referee working the match has to count the pinfall as if it were a legit match. Even so, it appears that Adams took the fall for a pushed tag team "being made to look bad".

I have to wonder about the ethics of firing people while injured in wrestling. Every time it happens, one more wrestler figures out that they have to manage pain (these days with alcohol, instead of as many pain pills as the past) and not report an injury.

Randy Orton involved in motorcycle accident, will be out longer

According to a report on WWE.com, Randy Orton was recently involved in a motorcycle accident that caused him to re-injure his collarbone. Orton, who was just medically cleared to return to the ring, is now expected to be out for another three to four months. This puts his return time possibly around Survivor Series in November.

Brock Lesnar UFC Saturday plus WWE Connection

Former WWE star Brock Lesnar (1-1 in MMA career, 0-1 in UFC overall) will be competing in his second fight for the UFC this Saturday in Minneapolis, MN at the Target Center against MMA heavyweight veteran Heath Herring (28-13 in MMA career, 2-2 in the UFC overall).

Lesnar made his UFC debut earlier this year on February 2 against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir, losing in 1:30 during the first round after a submission. He was originally scheduled to fight UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman at this event, but Coleman was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury.

As we did with his debut back in February, WrestleView.com will be providing coverage of Lesnar's return to the UFC this Saturday at UFC 87 in Minneapolis. We will actually be providing exclusive coverage of sorts as I will be attending Friday afternoons weigh-ins for UFC 87 featuring Lesnar and also attending the UFC 87 Pay Per View event on Saturday night at the Target Center. Expect daily updates to be posted on Friday and Saturday on our newsboard.

Also featured on the card for UFC 87 is Georges St-Pierre defending the UFC Welterweight Title against Jon Fitch and Roger Huerta vs. Kenny Florian.

WWE.com is currently featuring a large amount of advertising for Brock Lesnar's return to UFC this Saturday night in Minneapolis, MN at the Target Center against Heath Herring. There is also a poll on the main page asking fans if Lesnar will win in his second fight with UFC tomorrow.

UFC struck a similar deal with WWE back in February to promote Lesnar's debut against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir. A deal was also struck with TNA to show highlights of Lesnar training for his debut on Impact.

Update On Flair Parting Ways with WWE

Lots of discussion making the rounds today since the announcement of Ric Flair and World Wrestling Entertainment officially parting ways on Sunday.

Flair's agent issued the following statement today regarding the WWE split: "WWE and I parted on the best of terms. This gives me the chance to pursue new opportunities, corporate speaking engagements, product sponsorships, autograph shows for my loyal fans (who made me what I am today) and film and television roles. My agent and I are very excited about what the future holds."

Reports by The Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online and ProWrestling.net are indicating that while Flair did leave WWE on good terms, his decision to do so left a number of people within WWE and the wrestling industry confused. The hope among many is that Flair made the right decision for himself long-term, although there is concern he is making another bad financial decision by leaving the security of WWE for a run outside the company. This doesn't mean he has any plans to return to the ring for TNA or anyone else as pretty much no believes he has any intentions of doing that.

The general feeling is that his WWE departure was a culmination of a lot of things including not wanting to work as many dates as an ambassador for WWE, something that has been described as a grinding schedule for a wrestler that is no longer active in the ring. Flair was also said to be upset with the way WWE promoted his new DVD and felt it could have been promoted better on television if he had been involved. Reports right now are indicating Flair had no interest in working for WWE as a producer or as a commentator. Flair has reportedly told friends that he is excited about some potential projects that he is involved in and has dropped the names of some major corporations who want to do business with him, something WWE was limiting him from doing and he feels he could make more money outside of WWE if he had continued working for them.

Former WWE Women's Champ Lita Performing in Atlanta

Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas’ Luchagors are performing on August 5 at the Starlight Six in Atlanta, GA, in what is billed as their Homecoming. The event begins at 7:30 PM, with a showing of Quentin Tarantino’s “Hell Ride” starting at 9:30, followed by “Hellboy II” and “Wanted”. Also performing live are Thee Crucials. A motorcycle and scooter showcase is also planned.

FCW Mention in Pro Wrestling Illustrated

CSRA wrestling organization Flatline Championship Wrestling has garnered a mention in long-time wrestling magazine Pro Wrestling Illustrated. The blurb, located on page 50 of the September 2008 issue features the organization's web address as well as current FCW Heavyweight and Rage Division Champions Devon Wright and Chris Mayne.

Recognized as the wrestling's number one magazine since the first issue hit stands in 1979, Pro Wrestling Illustrated has featured the top superstars as well as up and coming wrestlers over the past 29 years. In addition to the "Your Guide to the Independents" in which FCW is mentioned, the September 2008 issue also features a special mid-year report as well as a cover story on WWE superstar Randy Orton.

It has come to the attention of the staff here at Mat Chat that this issue has been hard to find. After extensive searching we can report that a healthy supply can be found at the Books-A-Million on Washington road.
