The Wrestling Mole Speaks Out!

After countless attempts to reach someone regarding this past Tuesday's AWA event at Coyote's, Mat Chat has received a report from Barry Molea, the self-proclaimed "CSRA Wrestling Mole", on the weird happenings of Tuesday July 8, 2008.

According to Molea, all was not right with this event from the start.

"I got there around 3 or 3:30. we went in and they were working on the frame of the ring. Mainly greenhorns, and the promoter," said Molea. "The ring was on the dance floor and there was like 6 inches on top of you till the ceiling so they take an hour to break it down again, and move it to the bar floor in the corner. Takes them 30 minutes to put it back up and they are bumping in it and the welding on the rail breaks loose so they have to call in a welder from Edgefield to come fix it. He fixes it around, eh, 6:30 or so the ring is going great."

Molea then confirms reports that issues occurred regarding the brand new AWA belts that were scheduled to be awarded that evening.

"The guy who did the belts and all was owed money, so he took the belts that were just made back to Millen with him because Lil' Dale owed him $500 for the belts. It was hilarious.(Reportedly money was not on hand and not only did the belts retreat back to Millen, the wrestlers who traveled from Millen to wrestle retreated as well.)

Could the Millen wrestlers departure also been a result of age issues?

"They told us that anybody who wasn't 21 had to leave," continued Molea. "There goes half the workers and the people who came with them left as well. But the workers could be 18 and work, which makes no sense."

According to Molea, in an effort to get the few people in attendance to stay, the show started around 8:45 pm. By now many of those in attendance, some of the 25 workers and 20 customers, have been sitting at the bar drinking.

"Half the workers are at the bar and are TRASHED. Maybe 20 people there total," adds Moela. "The first match is a hardcore "singapore Cane on a pole" which was a paperclip hanging from the ceiling and it's Rellik, grunge, and one other wrestler. Rellik wins and Johnny Blaze and John Malus come out, break the sticks and attack Rellik and Grunge. Funny as hell. The next ones I don't really remember. In the main event, V.I.P. defeated The Dynasty which was one SLOPPY match."

What Molea describes next sounds like a bit from a bad episode of The Sopranos.

"At the end of the night, Lil' Dale can't pay the bar and he gets some felony fraud charges. To top it all off, he couldnt pay Johnny Blaze, John Malus, Cali Casanova and Hallowicked and they wanted to kill him. To make matters worse, the bar held the ring for collateral about the money owed."

What kind of bad deal was struck with the venue? Wasn't that the TWF ring? What will this mean for the future of AWA? Or TWF for that matter? And what about the belts?

Stay tuned.

Rumor Mill (continued)

In hopes of garnering a little info for you folks out there on the outcome and/or results in relation to this past Tuesday's debut Augusta Wrestling Alliance show at Coyote's, a couple of days ago we posted the buzz flying around the rumor mill. While no one has yet to comment on the actual post, we have received a few Myspace messages, most relaying similar info but none as of yet, from sources directly related to the event. We're not sure what the big secret is, but everyone sure is remaining mum on the subject. We were even hoping for comments, we don't even mind the use of words such as damn, ass, or even s@#t.

But one MySpace message did peak our curiousity with a comment that said, "I don't think the AWA event actually happened."

So we tooled around and lo and behold, we found some footage online at guess where...yep, YouTube! The footage is from Mr. Big Game James' YouTube Page and one clip includes the wrestler's entrance and the other? his match against Tony Fresh. So now we know...this wasn't just a figment of someone's imagination. Now if we could only get the friggin' match results!

Anyway, enjoy...commentating courtesy of the great Matt Gaines and some other dude.

Rumor (or Rumour for the Highly Refined) Mill

Since late Tuesday night we have been holding our collective breates waiting for any news of the outcome of the highly touted AWA (not THE AWA but the Augusta Wrestling Alliance) debut event held Tuesday night at Coyote's on Peach Orchard Road. If you are in the Augusta Wrestling MySpace mix, you know of which show we speak. If not...refer to below graphic:

This event, called "Breaking Loose" would have it all. Tournaments for the AWA Tag Team Championship, Southern States Championship, Lightning Championship, plus the fledgling organizations first ever World Heavyweight Champion would be crowned.

So we waited...and waited...and waited...until the rumors started flooding in.

In the end rumors were all we could get. But in hopes that SOMEONE from AWA will comment in order for us to get the skinny on the show, we will be more than happy to present these rumors for public consumption, mostly in the hopes that SOMEONE will respond to dispel or confirm the happenings of Tuesday July 8th, 2008.

Let it first be known that TWF was generous enough to provide a newly covered ring for this event. TWF, always generous, has always been a "team player".

From what we have been let to understand...the issues of the night include:

A row between venue and organizors at the end of the night about monies owed. Reportedly attendance was VERY low. Whether AWA had given the venue a guarantee is not known but first what must be considered is this: Whose decision, AWA or venue, was it to have this event on a Tuesday? Secondly, while all reports cite the finger for low attendance being pointed soley at AWA officials, what did the venue as a business do to promote this event itself? Hmmm...

Also in question are the results of the Championship events and the belts attached, not to mention the future ring for AWA. It has been reported, by many more than just a few sources, that the belts were headed for Millen, Georgia before the event even started due to a lack of payment for the creation of said belts. The future of the ring is unknown at this time.

Also rumored, in addition to several Millen wrestlers leaving prematurely, a few area marquee wrestlers also, as one source put it, "bailed out early." We're not here to name names, just to get to the outcome and news of this event.

It is a shame that an event with such promise would become entangled in controversy. We have only to believe that the intended outcome of this event was not achieved hence the lack of information about it. But we hold hope that the rumors are just that, and that Augusta wrestling has a new company to look forward to.

It just doesn't seem so at the moment.
